Research Interests
Genetic basis of important traits in livestock - we are using whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics to understand the genetic basis of economically important traits in cattle and pigs. Part of this work involves developing new tools and algorithms for processing next-generation sequencing data.
Bacterial and bacteriophage comparative genomics - we have developed several software tools to aid in the analysis and annotation of DNA sequences obtained from bacteria and bacteriophage. We are continually refining these tools and applying them to problems in agriculture and medicine.
Bacterial metagenomics - we are using a variety of sequencing and bioinformatics approaches to study bacterial populations, to better understand their influence on host traits.
